If you’re after a video game that wastes absolutely no time getting you into the action, DOOM on PC is a cracking choice. This is the sort of FPS that throws you into the deep end, hands you a ridiculously powerful shotgun, and basically says, “Right then, get on with it.”
And honestly, that’s what makes it so much fun.
The first thing that stands out is the combat. DOOM is ridiculously fast-paced, and standing still is pretty much asking to get turned into demon dinner. Visually, DOOM still delivers a seriously impressive experience on PC. The environments are packed with detail, from grimy industrial facilities to the hellish landscapes filled with fire, demons and general nastiness. Everything feels suitably dark and aggressive without becoming difficult to follow during combat.
And we can’t forget the music. The heavy, industrial soundtrack is practically another weapon. It kicks in during the bigger fights and makes the whole experience feel even more intense. If you like your gaming soundtracks loud, heavy and energetic, you’re in for a treat.
What I particularly like about DOOM is that it understands what makes an FPS enjoyable. There’s no need to spend ages faffing around with unnecessary mechanics. The game gives you guns, demons and plenty of reasons to keep moving, then lets the gameplay do the talking.
Of course, it’s not perfect. The relentless action can become a little repetitive if you play for long stretches, and players looking for a deep, character-driven story might find the narrative fairly lightweight. But that isn’t really the point. DOOM is about fast, brutal and satisfying first-person shooting, and it absolutely nails that formula.
Overall, DOOM on PC is an absolute belter of an FPS. It’s fast, violent, loud and ridiculously entertaining. Whether you’re a longtime fan of the series or someone who simply fancies a proper action-packed shooter, there’s plenty here to enjoy.
