Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos is one of those PC strategy games that manages to combine brilliant real-time combat with a proper story you actually want to follow.
Released in 2002, the game puts you in control of several factions, including the Humans, Orcs, Night Elves and Undead. Each has its own units, abilities and playstyle, making the campaign feel varied from start to finish.
The campaign is easily one of the biggest highlights. Instead of simply jumping from one battle to another, Warcraft III tells an engaging fantasy story filled with memorable characters, betrayals and plenty of massive battles. The different campaigns also give you a chance to experience the conflict from multiple perspectives.
The gameplay is excellent as well. You need to gather resources, build your base, create armies and carefully manage your units during combat. Heroes add another layer to the strategy, gaining experience and powerful abilities as they level up.
What really makes Warcraft III stand out is how well it balances strategy and character progression. Your heroes aren’t just another unit on the battlefield — they become an important part of your army and can completely change how you approach a fight.
The graphics are obviously dated now, but the distinctive art style still gives the game plenty of charm. The voice acting, music and atmosphere also help make the world feel surprisingly memorable.
